Yes the 7.4v Lipo is slightly higher ROF, but by far exceeds the reliability of the 9.6v. Any battery can (not that it necessarily will) explode if you're being a retard and push the it out of spec. Keep your lipo within specs (easy to do), and you wont have a problem. Li-Poly packs will hold a charge much longer, and while unused discharge much less than a NiMH / NiCad pack. Li-Poly packs are able to fit more voltage and wattage in a smaller package and discharge it at a much higher rate (current / amperage), than NiCad or NiMH packs, by far.
